On Thursday, October 29th, 2026, the New York City Environmental Justice Alliance (NYC-EJA) is celebrating 35 Years!

As NYC-EJA celebrates this milestone, we are reminded again of the power of collective resistance & resilience. The challenges we face, from climate change to political upheaval, underscore that simple, but powerful premise. From S.I. to BK, and from Uptown to the Boogie Down, we have learned to not just live, but to thrive, under the weight of generational duress.

Our theme this year is “We Are Still Here: Powering the Just Transition.” This event is a time to celebrate this simple yet powerful truth: despite the assaults on our communities and our movement, we are still here. Together, we are the bridge, the backbone, and the power behind the just transition.

The event will honor organizations and individuals (TBA) that have shown themselves to be bold in their commitment to environmental justice, and to changing the world. They are leaders who remind us of who we are, where we have been, and where we will go in partnership.

We hope you will join us!

 CELEBRATING OUR HONOREES

HONORING THE NYC CLIMATE JUSTICE HUB

The NYC Climate Justice Hub (the Hub) is a three-year old partnership between the New York City Environmental Justice Alliance (NYC-EJA) and the City University of New York (CUNY). The Hub connects NYC-EJA member organizations most burdened by climate injustice to environmental research/ educational resources at CUNY. The Hub serves as a conduit through which CUNY professors, students, and other resources are effectively channeled to meet the needs of environmental/climate justice communities and their revolutionary, evolutionary agendas.

HONORING THE BRONX RIVER ALLIANCE

The Bronx River Alliance serves as a coordinated voice for the river and works in harmonious partnership to protect, improve and restore the Bronx River corridor so that it can be a healthy ecological, recreational, educational and economic resource for the communities through which the river flows.

As the convenors of a powerful coalition, the Bronx River Alliance and partners stood defiantly –and succeeded– against the proposed expansion of the Cross Bronx Expressway, a highway whose history displaced thousands of families, divided neighborhoods, and continues to impose deadly pollution in the South Bronx. The Stop the Cross Bronx Expansion Coalition is composed of Bronx grassroots groups, environmental justice organizations, and advocates for safe and healthy transportation fighting to implement a positive community-led vision that reverses the harms done to the public health, environment, and social and economic life of the Bronx by the Expressway. We continue to advocate for tangible improvements to address mobility, safety, air and water quality, and to connect and green neighborhoods in the process, including increasing resilience to climate change.
